Hesketh Bank Silver Band was formed in 1895 as a temperance band. The Temperance movement was very strong in those days. The instruments were bought from Banks Brass Band; the band from the village next door. We believe the instruments cost a staggering four pounds. Much of the early history is unclear but we can only assume that the band's original aim was to promote the temperance movement.

During the 1950's the band disbanded for a couple of years due to many of the players being called up for National Service.

In the 1960's a Welshman named Mr. J.H. Hughes was appointed as Musical Director. This appoinment proved successful as during this time Hesketh Band were always 'the band to beat' at contests.

Later, the band appointed Mr. Harry Benthem as Musical Director. Mr Bentham achieved great things with the band and in 1985 Hesketh Bank Silver Band became the National Champions of the 4th Section with an outstanding performance at the Royal Albert Hall.

The band are delighted that Mr Bentham has returned to the band as temporary Musical Director. Thank you Harry.
